Medline Maxorb Extra Ag Silver Alginate Antimicrobial Flat Rope Wound Dressing is ideal for tunneling or undermining wounds. It is a highly absorbent wound dressing that provides an antibacterial barrier to fight the bacteria absorbed in the wound exudate. CMC fiber present in the dressing helps improve vertical wicking, fluid handling ability as well as wet strength. When wound exudate gets mixed with Maxorb Extra Ag, a gel is formed, which will not wick out laterally and will reduce the potential for damage to the peri-wound skin. It helps manage bacterial burden with controlled-release ionic silver.

Maxorb Extra Ag Silver Alginate Wound Dressing Highlights:

  • Reduces odor
  • Easy dressing changes
  • Highly absorbent
  • No lateral wicking of fluid
  • Cost-effective
  • Up to 21-day antimicrobial protection

Maxorb Extra Ag Flat Rope Wound Dressing Features

  • Sustained antimicrobial protection: Maxorb Extra Ag Antimicrobial Dressing is effective for up to 21 days
  • Highly absorbent: It absorbs more than other alginate or absorbent silver dressings
  • Superior gelling and fluid handling: CMC fiber in Maxorb Extra Ag helps improve the vertical wicking, fluid handling and wet strength
  • Fluid will not wick laterally: When wound exudate mixes with Maxorb Extra Ag, it forms a gel that will not wick out, thereby reducing the potential for damage to peri wound skin
  • One piece removal: High wet and dry integrity means easy one-piece removal
  • Reduces odor: Odor in wounds is caused by bacteria, and so by providing an antibacterial barrier to combat bacteria absorbed in the wound exudate, odor is reduced

Continuous-Release Ionic Silver For Antimicrobial Protection:

Reducing bioburden in a wound is one of the key factors in helping it to heal. If too many body resources are devoted to fight invaders, fewer resources are available to help the body heal itself.

Silver has long been known as an antimicrobial, but it has two inherent weaknesses: body metabolizes it quickly and it can be cytotoxic. Maxorb Extra Ag Dressing releases silver in extremely small amounts that do not damage the healthy tissue. Yet it still acts as an extremely effective antimicrobial.

Maxorb Extra Ag is seeded with an ionic silver compound known as silver sodium hydrogen zirconium phosphate. Ionic silver compound is unusual as it is activated by sodium and not by water. Exposure to the sodium in wound exudate helps stimulate the continuous release of silver ions, thereby providing antimicrobial protection over a broad spectrum of bacteria and fungi, including MRSA and VRE. Maxorb Extra Ag is non-irritating, biocompatible, non-sensitizing and will not harm new granulation tissues.

CMC fibers For Extra Absorbency And Strength:

Blend of non-woven alginate and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) fiber is far more absorbent than other alginate dressings. When wound fluid is absorbed by the alginate, it forms a gel and assists in maintaining a moist environment for optimal wound healing. The added presence of CMC improves the gelling and fluid handling capability as well as adds up improved wet strength. It also allows intact, one-piece removal.
